Particulate Matter PM is a mixture of solid and/or liquid particles that are floating in the air. According to the EPA particles that are 10 micrometers in diameter or smaller are inhalable. Particles are especially dangerous once inhaled. It can affect the heart, and lungs and cause serious health issues. People with existing heart or lung diseases are at a greater risk. Some indoor particle matter indoor sources include: cooking, candles, unvented combustion devices, unvented kerosene or fossil fuel heater, fireplaces, and cigarette smoking.
